How to handle a retractable sleeve stacking banana plug?

Created Jun 18, 2026 Updated Jun 19, 2026

Regarding our CT2151 4mm retractile sleeve stacking banana plug test leads, their hand-held use rating is 600 V CAT II.

Note, this is when holding them in the correct area. A user's hand must be behind indicated finger guide projections. Users must not touch forward of this, including the clear cover sleeve.

Our plugs have the proper creep and clearance distances for 600 V CAT II when held in this area.

The last paragraph of 61010-031, 6.4.2, states "...CONNECTORS which are intended to be hand-held or hand-manipulated by the OPERATOR during measurement or test, and can be removed or displaced by the OPERATOR without the use of a TOOL, are not considered to provide the required protection against electrical shock."

However, the last sentence in this same paragraph grants an exception, in that, "...they are acceptable is where they are needed for connection to test or measurement equipment that is equipped with TERMINALS which cannot accept fully shrouded CONNECTORS."
